@SuperMastodon

It’s been an interesting week in terms of professional wrestling for me. While patiently waiting for the start of the G1 Climax, I spent my time watching other promotions that I usually don’t view on a daily basis.

First is Pro Wrestling NOAH which I frequent from time to time if they have a big event going on. Their own tournament started as well the “Global Jr. League.” Cool to see veterans like Yoshinari Ogawa and Minoru Tanaka still go at it! Chris Ridgeway is having a decent run over at NOAH too. The top guys such as Kaito, Sugiura, and Marufuji always deliver.

Another one would be RevPro. Their latest event was headlined by members of Los Ingobernables de Japon, RevPro: Ungovernable. Gabriel Kidd will be part of the New Japan LA Dojo, personally recruited by head trainer Katsuyori Shibata himself! Zack Sabre Jr. and SANADA main evented for the RevPro British Heavyweight title. A taste of what’s to come in their eventual G1 matchup!

Major League Wrestling (MLW) has always been a fun promotion to watch. Their weekly show: Fusion is one of the best consistent wrestling shows out there in my opinion. Tom Lawlor is one of the best wrestlers in the American scene right now who I feel does not get enough recognition. Austin Aries made his debut as well and Lucha legend Dr Wagner Jr. will be coming soon. Lots of fun stuff to look forward to!

To end it all, what a weekend it has been with the start of the G1 Climax! Its the first time the tournament took place in the US and all the matches delivered from the undercard till the main event!

Started do dual reviews for the site this week which meant me doing the ROH TV round up, which you can imagine wasn’t the easiest to do. I like Ring of Honor at times and the opener was pretty decent with Jay Briscoe mixing it up with PCO who is just a bumping machine! Main event between Jeff Cobb and Mark Haskins was good too, however Bully Ray is still a massive influence on the product and his tag match with Shane Taylor against Coast to Coast was just to put Bully himself over! This man is ruining the product, he’s too long in the tooth for wrestling now, in this guise anyway. Enough of Bully Ray.

MLW was the complete opposite, by far the best weekly TV show in the states at the moment! Easy storytelling and putting wrestlers over, isn’t that what weekly TV is supposed to do?

Today saw the Tokyo Joshi Pro Princess cup finals. Yuna Manase defeated AEW favourite Yuka Sakazaki to advance to the finals where she faced Yuka’s tag team partner Mizuki who disposed of my tip Natsumi Maki to join her. This was the first Tokyo Princess cup Final that did not include a TJPW trueborn but two freelancers. Mizuki looks to be the next challenger for Shoko Nakajima’s Princess title at the Korakuen August show after defeating Manase to win the overall tournament! My review will drop tomorrow!

Not really anything to do with wrestling as such, however listened to Vince Russo show ‘Truth with Consequences’ podcast this week. Very interesting show as Vince interviewed Mike Williams, of ‘Sage of Quay’ podcast, a You Tube show based on the conspiracy theory that Paul McCartney of the Beatles was killed in 1966 and replaced by Billy Spears! After this two part podcast even I have to think about whether there is some actual truth to this theory. Highly recommend giving this podcast a listen, it is free on Westwood One!

This Week I watched my favourite SLAMMIVERSARY matches from ec3 vs Mike Bennett to Samoa Joe vs Scott Steiner as well as listening to two IMPACT press pass podcasts. Also watched an Amazing match from a couple years ago between AJ Styles and Adam Cole  (BAY BAY) For the ROH world title which was just amazing, Along with watching Adam Pacitti’s wrestlemania punishment live stream for Cultaholic which was very funny but felt sorry for him having to say “You love it “ 100,000 times. I tuned into to Twitch to Watch IMPACT plus rewind with Ethan page who watched a few Slammiversary matches and answered a few of my questions from the chat. Not forgetting all the IMPACT shows including Bash at the Brewery and Deep IMPACT which were amazing and not forgetting Slammiversary tonight which will be the best PPV of the year.

My stand out match of the week of which I’ve watched myself was the NXT UK Tag Team Championship match Grizzled Young Veterans (Champions) against Moustache Mountain which ended in indecisively as Imperium interfered. The brand itself NXT UK is always rather hard hitting with a variety of different wrestling styles mixed in. The Woman’s division keeps expanding constantly giving you more a reason to watch.

I’ve recently heard an intriguing rumor that a certain WCW legend will be returning to WWE to face The Dead Man The Undertaker, that wrestler is The Icon Sting. The issue is I don’t think it’ll be a match that’ll be satisfactory as it could have once been. As much as the match certainly would bring viewers (including myself as Sting and Undertaker are two of my favorite wrestlers) I don’t think the promos will be I wouldn’t be surprised if they were repetitive if I’m honest.

The speculation on who Aleister Black be facing is certainly intriguing I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Randy Orton, Cesaro or Bray Wyatt possibly.

If I’m completely honest the only things that RAW & Smack Down are interesting me are the 24/7 Championship and Bray Wyatt segments.
