Pre-Show Dark Match

August Jackson def. Brad Slayer

Saturday night’s proceedings kicked off with a dark match introducing two new talents to the Chaos audience. The match was good, August seemed the better of the competitors and seemed the more relaxed. Brad looked good in his exchanges and the match had a decent flow. August really seemed to use this moment to get himself and his wrestling ability over, he looked good in the ring and his attempts at getting the audience involved was nice to see. It’s a difficult task to show your true self in a match like this, but I felt both performers gave a good showing and the audience received them well. After some back and forth action, August was able to claim the victory in his first Chaos singles match. It’s also good to see Chaos giving talent the exposure and time to establish themselves.

Before the show started, Chancellor of Chaos Merlin Cambridge, cut another meaningless promo. When heel authority figures work, they really work, unfortunately the Merlin character is just plain boring, and he has the X-Pac vibe so to speak. He can talk well, he’s articulate and can at times be a managerial villain at ringside. Maybe Pariah Khan can offer Merlin a few tips on how to harness his own style of panache.

Joel Redman def. Mike Bird

This was your run of the mill generic opening match, it was a solid contest, no mistakes, and everything was snug. The match itself didn’t elicit much of a reaction, then again nothing did all night. Joel received some abuse pre-match and did his best to rile the crowd, Bird was the audience favourite and again he gave a good showing. Joel applied a Sharpshooter, following that he then worked the leg…. think about it. The match went back and forth, Joel dominated for short periods before Bird fought back, portions of the audience tried to rally support for Bird but to no avail. The match came to an end after Redman planted Bird with a Tombstone Piledriver.

Wild Boar def. Chuck Mambo

This match was good when Boar was on the offence, personally for me, Mambo is an opening/comedy match character at best. Mambo is a fan favourite; the majority seem to like him and therefore he received a face reaction. After an odd 2018 in Chaos, it was good to see Boar back in the ring, he still receives a good reaction and I for one still think there is much more he can offer the promotion as a character. His no nonsense, psychotic approach is perfect for today’s wrestling scene, however against Mambo the styles just didn’t mesh. As mentioned in my opening line, when Boar is attacking, he is great; he doesn’t hold back and the audience love it. Returning in 2019 I think the audience were unsure how to accept Boar, Mambo tried his best to warm up the audience but again it was futile. Boar secured victory with a devastating Package Piledriver to reintroduce himself.

Nina Samuels def. Shax (Jinny was unable to perform)

Where do I start, once more the non-appearance by Jinny was just laughable, there is generating heat then just being plain boring. Whether it’s been because of injury or conflicting schedules, the time has come for the promotion to strip Jinny of the Maiden of Chaos Title. Shax who was meant to face Jinny, instead took on the challenge of Nina Samuels, who not surprisingly the majority of fans didn’t know. This was about passable, once you’ve seen one Shax match you’ve seen them all, yes, she does get fiery when needed but overall, she lacks the KO punch. Nina who based on this appearance you have to wonder why WWE signed her, did nothing of merit. After some basic wrestling moves, Shax had Nina defeated, then she was distracted by a pre-recorded video message from Jinny. That then allowed Nina to take advantage and score the pin.

Paul Robinson def. Beano via Submission

This is another feud that has failed to live up to expectations, after watching Paul last night I wonder if his act is too much for Chaos. Beano after coming off a stunning series of matches with Mark Haskins in 2018, hasn’t been able to rekindle that form in a Chaos ring. It’s again as if their styles don’t mix well, Paul seems as if he always wants to let go and run rampant, Beano on the other hand seems to suit working with guys similar to his style. For example, Beano against Robbie X would most probably yield the type of match Beano is crafted for. This was better than their February match, this at least was a little more competitive and structured. Paul was dominant throughout as he attacked the arm of Beano and kept his concentration to that area, it was logical but harmed the overall contest. Beano came back into the match and stung Robbo with some hard blows and kicks, it was however the use of a chair once more that doomed Beano to defeat. Once Beano was weakened enough, Paul wrenched back the arm until the NP44 native tapped out.

Knights of Chaos Tag Team Championship *Title Change*

Project Superbad (Kip Sabian/Martin Kirby) def. Crazy TeaCups (Charlie Sterling/Eddie Ryan) w/Pariah Khan

This was a rematch from last month, and thankfully without the Lion at ringside this was an overall much better contest. Sabian and Kirby played their roles well, and after an early flurry from the faces Project Superbad settled down. The heels did their best to cut off Ryan from his partner, they kept the pressure on and used every shortcut available to them. Khan was again fantastic at ringside, he paraded around pointing out the ref’s failed attempts at controlling the contest. The hot tag built until Sterling finally entered the match proper, he took out Kirby and Sabian in quick succession and had the audience finally making some noise. I’ve said it countless times before but Chaos have a bonafide main eventer in Charlie Sterling, the man is money personified. The TeaCups fought well and came back into the contest, the combination of a Superkick and Cutter floored Sabian but once again, Kirby made the save. Similar to last month it was another distraction that cost the Champions the match, but also this time the titles. One of the two masked assailants appeared in the aisle waving the poor Eddie Lion’s tail, Eddie Ryan gave chase, which in turn left Sterling at the mercy of Project Superbad. They hoisted Sterling high for a double reverse Death Valley Driver, the ref counted to three and the titles were lost.

King of Chaos Championship

Dick Riley © def. Eddie Dennis

The highly anticipated main event was finally here, two of the best from the Chaos roster would finally be going one on one for the King of Chaos Title. Unfortunately, the atmosphere killed this match before the bell even rang, what made it even worse was the injury that Eddie Dennis suffered towards the end of match. This deserved a better venue and atmosphere, the match felt like an old school NWA contest, the slow build, and each wrestler trying to get an advantage. The match built steadily, the mutual respect between both competitors was evident and it seemed both were weary of giving too much away. The momentum swung back and forth, Dick seemed a little nervous as Dennis had played this game before, the tension filled the ring as both jockeyed for position. As the match settled the wrestlers began to take risks but neither would give an inch, both Eddie and Dick hit their moves but kick outs were frustrating both. All seemed to be going well until the ref threw a look of concern to one of the staff members, Dick countered Eddie and the ref counted to three, match over. Riley was still King of Chaos.

Following the three count the audience stood for Eddie, he managed to walk out of the ring and backstage but looked visibly distraught at what had happened. Here’s to a quick recovery.

The arena then went dark.

King of Chaos Championship *Title Change* (HTTT Cash-in)

James Drake def. Dick Riley

As the lights came back on James Drake stood across the ring from Dick Riley, the audience who were already on their feet kept standing. Drake floored Dick with the briefcase and hit a flying dropkick in the corner, at the first pin attempt Riley kicked out. Drake then floored Dick with a Sit Out DDT for the win and to become the new King of Chaos.

Per the stipulation set by Merlin in February, Dick Riley has to leave Pro Wrestling Chaos.
