NWA ran the second episode of their weekly YouTube show Powerrr, this week being a taping, unlike last week which was live.

The show opened with a recap of everything that happened last week, with the promise that this week play-by-play announcer Joe Galli would get answers about what happened last week when NWA Champion Nick Aldis accidentally clotheslined his manager Camille.

We started with the introduction of Aron Stevens, the former Damien Sandow in WWE. He cut a heelish promo, but was very funny. He said as far as wrestling goes, he will get back to them when the star of the show has his supporting cast.

Opening Match: Ricky Starks vs Trevor Murdoch

Murdoch has not been a full-time wrestler for a couple of years, so I expected this to be a showcase for Starks, who has been featured on NWA programming before. But surprisingly, they had a competitive match, with the contrasting styles of both men coming into play and making for a fun contest.

Starks eventually won with a crucifix roll-up

Starks cut a promo afterwards, saying he was not just here to win championships, that he was here to bring this show to the next level. Then he went on for a while about how good looking he is and how everyone fawns over him.

After a break, Galli introduces Colt Cabana, a former NWA National Champion. Cabana says he can go for the world title, the national title, or heck even the tag team titles, as he has a tag team match after this interview. His partner, former WWE superstar and TNA World Champion Mr. Anderson comes out.

Colt Cabana & Mr. Anderson vs Sal Rinauro & Jordan Kingsley

This was kind of a nothing match. It was totally inoffensive, which is a good thing, especially considering that Cabana and Anderson have never been known for their workrate.

Cabana did some light comedy stuff, and Anderson looked fine in the limited time he was in the ring. Kingsley & Rinauro were just fodder as this was a showcase for the other team.

Anderson picked up the win for his team with the Mic Check.

We had an Eddie Kingston backstage promo, as he prepared for he and Homicide to challenge The Wild Cards (Royce Isaacs & Thomas Latimer) for the World Tag Team Championships.

NWA World Women’s Champion Allysin Kay vs Ashley Vox – Non-title Match

Another nothing, inoffensive match. Kay has a star presence, which is what the NWA wants right now, but she was clearly out-shined in this match by Vox.

Vox showed so much fire and great ring awareness. Hopefully she is a regular in this promotion going forward, because she has worlds of potential.

Unfortunately though, because she is the champion, Kay had to pick up the win with a Dudebuster (reverse cradle piledriver).

Kay cut a promo afterwards saying that Vox did a hell of a job and that she has a future here, but it’s just not with the title.

Then there is a tease for next week’s show, saying that we will know more about Tim Storm’s future after he unsuccessfully challenged Aldis for the World Heavyweight Championship last week.

Next up, Galli invited National Champion James Storm out for an interview. Storm says his belt is nothing more than a prop, and that he should be next in line for the world title, because he is an all-American man and he is that guy. Eli Drake interrupted, saying that as national champion, he is the next man up, and that after he challenges for the title, to not forget about “your boy,” referring to himself. So it looks like Storm vs Drake will be a big title feud in the future.

TV Main Event: The Wild Cards (Royce Isaacs & Thomas Latimer) © vs Eddie Kingston & Homicide – NWA World Tag Team Championships

I thought they would save this match for a later date, and I was kind of right, but I guess we will have to see how the rest of the TV tapings shape up.

This started as a basic tag match, with Kingston and Homicide running wild for a little bit before getting cut off so the champions could go to work. Eventually Kingston got a hot tag and started laying waste to the champions. But before the match could reach its next gear, the Dawsons (Dave and Zane), who debuted last week, ran in and layed out both teams. The match is ruled a no-contest, seemingly setting up the Dawsons to face Kingston and Homicide before going after the tag titles.

It sucks that a main event has to end so flat, but it is a young TV program that needs to set up plenty of future angles. Plus, this match was not the main focus of the show.

The show ended with Galli finally sitting down with Aldis and Camille to clear the air. They really did not say much in regards to what happened last week. Camille is there to even the odds when necessary, like in his matches against Cody where Brandi Rhodes could interfere at any time.

Galli did a great job coming off like a real broadcast journalist (probably because he is one), and being frustrated but civil when he could not get the answers he wanted.

Overall Thoughts

This show was not as strong as last week, possibly due to the clunkier pacing with the show being taped instead of live.

The matches were not necessarily good, but they were not exhausting either. The end of the show kind of dragged. The main event and closing interview felt flat, but could also be setting up something bigger in the future.

Overall, a middle-of-the-road show. It is easy enough to watch, and the presentation still has plenty of charm.
