On July 6th the 29th edition of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s premier heavyweight tournament, the G1 Climax gets underway in unfamiliar territory emanating from the American Airlines Center in Dallas,Texas. Followed by the promotions return to Japan for a double header at the Ota City Gymnasium in Tokyo on July 13th. At the Kizuna Road show from Korakuen Hall on June 16th, the participants and their respective blocks were announced as follows;

On the following day’s Kizuna Road show key match ups for the tournament were announced, which included; KENTA vs Kota Ibushi and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Kazuchika Okada on the shows opener in Dallas. Matches were also confirmed for New Japan’s triple header at the Nippon Budokan with block action concluding on August 10th and 11th respectively and the finals taking place on August 12th. Highlights include Will Ospreay vs Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kota Ibushi vs Kazuchika Okada closing out A Block on the first night. While in the closing night of B Block action Jon Moxley takes on Juice Robinson in a rematch from their classic IWGP US Heavyweight Championship clash during Best Of the Super Juniors Finals at Ryogoku Sumo Hall and Los Ingobernables de Japon Leader colliding with Bullet Club’s top dog “Switchblade” Jay White.
