Kamikaze Relentless Title Match

Sean Kustom © def. Chief Deputy Dunne

The first contest of the evening was a solid introduction, Chief Dunne offered a decent challenge to the ever-improving Sean Kustom. The match built steadily as both men cancelled each other out continuously, they traded moves early on before settling into a steady pace. Dunne controlled the majority of the match, he kept the offence up as Kustom was forced to fight from under. As Kustom came back into the contest the pace picked up. Dunne was reeling as the champion started to take over, they went back and forth as each man pulled out their big moves. There were countless near falls, the atmosphere in the venue picked up as the end seemed near. They exchanged move after move, they reversed and countered each other, Kustom hit has Discus Elbow as Dunne fired back with his Spear. This was too close to call, I thought Dunne would get the victory, that was until Kustom managed to roll up the challenger and retain his Relentless Title.

Luke Douglas def. Jack Starz

The future of Kamikaze was on show in this match, Jack Starz has been cutting his teeth on the main roster for quite some time, Luke Douglas however has only recently got the call yet he’s settled right in. This was another close contest, Starz has that gritty, never say die attitude and he leaves it all in the ring. Douglas, the current Kamikaze Pro Live Champion looks right at home, he looks the part and plays the self-serving heel role to perfection. They both went toe to toe, the contest was exciting and very competitive, Starz as always looked the machine that he is. Douglas is a great mix of brawler and technician, he may not be as powerful as Starz but he gave as good as he got. This was another back and forth contest with both Douglas and Starz exhibiting their potential, both have great qualities which will take them far. This was close, both men looked capable of taking the victory, however it was the on the rise Luke Douglas that scored a pivotal win that will further enhanced his reputation.

Gabriel Kidd def. Kay Jutler

The third contest was a true tour de force as two of Kamikaze’s most powerful went one on one, pride and respect was on the line here and the chance to move up the ladder. Gabriel Kidd has flourished as heel in 2018, he is unrecognisable as the baby-face I first saw in June 2017. He has swagger, an attitude and most of all he can go in the ring, his opposite Kay Jutler has all the same attributes, and together they produced a hard-hitting excellent match. Kidd who exhibits many qualities seen before in the legendary Stan Hansen was on fine form here, he worked away at Jutler with his technical/brawling style offence. Jutler the former Kamikaze Pro Champion was looking for a big win here, a victory over Kidd could propel him back towards the top of the card. This was a technical brawl, as Jutler looked for opportunities, Kidd looked for shortcuts, they pummelled one another as the momentum swung back and forth. In the first of two big moments, Kidd caught Jutler with a huge Lariat with floored his opponent, Kay returned to the fight before Kidd finished him off with a Tombstone Piledriver for a big victory. This match was well received by all.

‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey def. El Phantasmo

Arguably the match of the night? For many it was, these two lit up the venue and received a standing ovation from all in attendance. They were both well received when making their entrance, the audience were already in a frenzy before the bell rang. It’s matches like this that I don’t think I can explain how great it was via the written/typed word, this was one of the best matches I’ve witnessed in 2018. They complemented each other so well and the match flowed, the action was crisp, pacy and full of mouth-watering moments. This was high flying and hard hitting. Speedball controlled the majority of the match, his stinging kicks were brutally awesome, Phantasmo looked spent half way through this, he did however rally and come back into the match. ELP, sick of the constant brutality on display from Bailey decided to get his own back, this was via a series of slaps to the bare feet of Speedball. They exchanged feet chops before getting back to basics. The audience were in support of both men, the powerful kick game of Bailey took over as he further punished Phantasmo, Speedball finished off his opponent with his Shooting Star Double Knee Drop for an impressive victory. Exceptional wrestling contest.

‘The Elliot Jordan Experience’ def. El Ligero

Elliot Jordan, similar to Gabriel Kidd is another who has improved greatly over the past year, quickly becoming one of the pillars of Kamikaze Pro. He attacked current WWE wrestler El Ligero before the bell rang, to his credit it was a great way to gain an advantage, he pummelled Ligero and tossed him around ringside. The referee ordered the combatants to get back in the ring, from then on Jordan took great pleasure in controlling the tempo of the match. He grounded Ligero and kept the offence coming, the natural heel although hugely liked by the audience looked confident and on fine form. Ligero rallied and found opportunities, however it was never enough to launch a true comeback, the idea here was to make the Experience look dominant and a true threat to the upper-midcard, it succeeded. The match was good, a solid methodical performance from Jordan, this was his time, due to the pre-match attack on Ligero he was always on the backfoot. Ligero regrouped, he put a good fight but it was not enough, Elliot Jordan secured a big single win via roll-up.

Xia Brookside def. Shax

The atmosphere then cooled for the next match, the fighting female division of Kamikaze took centre stage. Xia has accomplished so much in 2018, she is ever improving and has really excelled in ring this year.  Shax too has really impressed me over the last few months, I recently saw her wrestle at Pro Wrestling Chaos and she dominated Sierra Loxton in an impressive match. This was a very competitive match, both women exhibited their skills and each controlled the match throughout, Xia’s confidence has really come on, she owns the ring and looks very at home. Shax although small in stature packs a punch, she battled well and looked good against Xia. This match was placed well on the card, the audience got involved and got behind the likeable Brookside, she had the momentum and earned herself a nice victory.

Kamikaze Pro Tag Team Titles No1 Contenders Match

Team Whitewolf def. The Hunter Brothers

For me personally the next match was my favourite, I’ve seen both teams perform before and I knew this was going to deliver. The Hunters were as always solid fan favourites, Team Whitewolf have also grown in popularity this year with fine performances for a number of promotions. This match built beautifully, it was a slow steady start with both teams leisurely settling into a rhythm, this was tag team wrestling at its finest. The teams went back and forth, slowly raising the stakes, the audience were well and truly behind the Hunter Brothers, but Whitewolf really got themselves over in a fantastic debut. The pace quickened as a future title match awaited the winners, the teamwork of all involved was extremely good, they traded moves as we witnessed reversal after reversal, both teams cancelled one another out. It was clear we were moving into the finale of the match as the near falls and breakneck speed of the match grew, the final five minutes was some of the best tag team wrestling I’ve seen in 2018. Both teams pulled out all the stops to guarantee victory, this was edge of your seat action as the teams traded big moves and Superkicks galore. The Hunters looked to win, that was before Whitewolf combined with a Missile Dropkick/Roundhouse Sweep to grab victory. Superior wrestling match.

Kamikaze Pro Championship Match – No DQ

Clint Margera © def. Chris Ridgeway

The main event of the evening was a highly anticipated match, Chris Ridgeway earned the opportunity to challenge Clint Margera earlier this month. This was another in the long line of no disqualification defences for Margera, I expected this to be a little quicker paced but unfortunately the contest kind of dragged. I think the stipulation restricted Ridgeway, who when one on one in a straight wrestling contest excels and usually steals the show. The match was too slow for Ridgeway, the wrestling played a bit part and therefore limited what he could do. Clint who is a two-time Kamikaze Champion did not look motivated at all, it’s possible that is the character he is portraying, which his very clever. Bank on It, taking place later this month should be very interesting. Clint pulled out all the legal shortcuts to gain the upper hand, Ridgeway laid into Clint with stiff kicks and chops, they brawled all around ringside before returning to the ring. Then the inevitable happened, the masked figure caused a distraction, Clint took advantage and delivered a Death Valley Driver to the retain the title.
