This is the first Installment of monthly articles I’ll be writing, bringing a Spotlight to independent BritWres promotions who work really hard and have untapped potential, this month I’m putting my spotlight on to PWL (Pro Wrestling Live).

PWL are a company based out of Walsall, England, and is owned by a wrestling veteran by the name of Matt Powell (Mad Dogg Maxx). This man is a twenty year veteran who has faced some of the best to step into a ring from “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, X-Pac, Super Crazy and most recently Taijiri. Mad Dogg is someone who perhaps people have heard of but maybe never seen in person, he never fails to put on a superb match. One of my personal favourites that I have seen in person was during PWL’s World championship tournament earlier this year and reached the final where he faced a superb wrestler by the name of Tamura, Unfortunately Mad Dogg would be unsuccessful and Tamura would become the inaugural world champion.

To me they have the feel of an old school British wrestling promotion and uphold a lot of the values set out by the original World of Sport, they always show respect and appreciation too the old guard of British wrestling by giving them a place to continue doing what they love. legends like Scrubber Daly, “Rock & Roll Express” Bob Barratt & most recently Kendo Nagasaki. However they have more than their fair share of up and coming young talent, some who given the breaks could be future big players on the independent scene. Talented guys & Girls like Danny Gold who is a pure fan favourite amongst the PWL faithful & it’s not hard to see why, he gets the crowd hyped up and is an excellent baby face with all the potential in the world.

They also feature possibly one of the hardest hitting big men I’ve ever seen at a local independent promotion by the name of (James) Venom, very powerful and not someone I’d ever like to look across the ring at. He’s also a natural heel and never fails to draw heat from the crowd, but can swiftly and effectively silence his opponents with hard hitting shots and huge power moves. PWL boast the perfect mix of faces & heels that can absolutely get the job done on the mic and on the mat, one of those very over baby faces is Mr Selfie. Loved by all Selfie is one of the top 3 most over guys on the roster and adored by all members of the family of any age, with his bright colours and in ring style it’s not difficult to see why he’s a huge PWL favourite.

PWL over the years have had many huge stipulation matches from Steel Cages to Ultimate X (Yes that Ultimate X). The crowds despite being intimate can get very loud and very rowdy, they’re certainly one of the loudest I’ve been a part of & are very passionate about the company and their favourite members of the roster. Over the years PWL have had no issues bringing in the big names for their shows Such as Carlito, Chris Masters, Bram, Johnny Gargano, Moose, The Rascalz, Ethan Page and Allie.

I chose PWL for my first addition of Spotlight because they up hold the values of BritWres and have thoroughly enjoyed all the Shows I have attended, thanks to Pro Wrestling Journal I’ve been given a platform and I’m using this platform to bring attention to the promotions who I feel deserve more eyes on them.

Let me know the promotions you feel deserve the Spotlight.
