Quite simply, this one of the best opening matches I have witnessed live in 2019. Attack Pro kicked off the weekend with this near perfect titanic brawl, featuring two of the best young up and coming talents on the wrestling scene, this was a recipe for success. Whenever I witness a match of this calibre, I tend to shy away from saying too much about it as I don’t think my words can fully justify how good it really was. We can discuss, tweet and post about this match but overall you had to be there to fully appreciate the quality, and then you can understand why everyone was on their feet at the end of the contest. This match was of a high standard, the offence, selling and pacing were incredible, both succeeded in proving how good they both are and how valuable their skill set is. The audience were split and that only added to the atmosphere, Brendan and Mark went to war, the strikes were hard, and the blood was real. As the match neared its conclusion the sequences, reversals and timing were excellent, every move mattered and made sense. Brendan surged late before Mark rallied and finished him off with a huge Lariat for the big victory. Excellent performances from both.
Ring Crew Express (Sid Oakley/Clay McLeod) def. Experiment in Terror (Elijah/LK Mezinger)
Heading into this weekend who would have thought that by the end of it, Elijah would be at odds, on top of that they lost for the first time to the Ring Crew Express. The shock was written all over their faces, Experiment in Terror made their way to the ring and as usual started to dominate proceedings. All was going well as Elijah and LK overpowered the Ring Crew; however, it would be the long-forgotten music of Bowlarama that would lead to their demise. As the music flooded Cathays, Mezinger was frozen in time, Elijah urged him to snap out of it, but all was too late. Amid the distraction the Ring Crew Express rolled up their opponents and took the surprising win.
Fatal-4-Way: Kyle Fletcher def. Rufio. Dani Luna & Julian Pace
The next match was an exhibition of existing and new talent, Kyle literally kicked off the match by booting Dani straight in her face. The audience did not approve, then the action started, the crowd were happy to see Rufio return and were very impressed by debutant Julian Pace. This match ticked so many boxes, it had a great mixture of styles and personalities and certainly wowed the audience. Kyle was of course excellent as usual and keeps improving as one of the best junior heavyweights in the industry. Dani Luna who with each performance keeps improving and earning the respect of fans again shone here, her brute strength and immunity to punishment is very evident as she just kept coming back. Rufio and Julian kept up with proceedings and exhibited their own diverse styles, once both got going the match really picked up, especially the pace of the contest. Overall this was an excellent contest that exhibited the current and future top workers of the wrestling business, Kyle picked up a well-deserved victory.
Robbie X def. Nico Angelo
This was a match announced beforehand and fans of both were highly excited, although very similar in their styles it was Robbie X who proved Nico still has a way to go. This was another fantastic contest between arguably one of the best wrestlers in the country, Robbie X and highly touted prospect Nico Angelo. The wrestling was very slick, fast, high flying and technical, both Robbie and Nico wowed the audience. Nico is yet to pick up a singles victory at Attack Pro, yet he has in his appearances become a solid fan favourite with his high-risk style. Robbie X the young veteran always performs at the top of his game, he never misses a step and always delivers one of the best displays of any wrestling show. The standard was high in this match, following on from the previous matches, their styles blended well, and the exchange of moves were impressive. Robbie’s fluid wrestling skills shone once again, his ability to gracefully move from sequence to sequence is a pleasure to watch. Nico wasn’t a slouch, he kept up in his places but ultimately lost out to the experience and skill of Robbie X. Excellent junior heavyweight, technical match, would like to see these two go one on one in the future.
Mike Bird vs Lee Obstruction – no contest
With two Attack originals going one on one the audience were very invested in this match, unfortunately the returning Connor Mills brought the match to a halt. Mills arrived at ringside and immediately attacked the participants, most notably Mike Bird. The attack was relentless as Connor violently beat on bird, he returned with chairs, thumbtacks and ended the segment by putting Bird through a table. The audience and ring crew were shocked at what had happened. This segment was booked exceptionally well and a great way to reintroduce Connor Mills.
Attack Pro Tag Team Championship: DAN/Man Like Dereiss © vs The Kabal (Asmodeus/Azaroth) – no contest
This was another match unfortunately ruled as a no contest as the Kabal looked to inflict damage on Dereiss and Dan, midway through the Kabal members looked to hit the champs with their own tag titles. Aussie Open hit the ring and fought off Asmodeus and Azaroth, all was tense still as the champs looked grateful. That was until Dan and Dereiss attacked Kyle and Mark, the action was wild as the two team beat on each other. More followed the following evening in Bristol.
Rickey Shane Page def. Shigehiro Irie
The main event featured two very talented and versatile wrestlers, with both coming from overseas the styles and attitudes were evident throughout. This was a solid, hard thought heavyweight brawl contested by two guys who can move like junior heavyweights. The match flowed well and followed on from the evenings crisp action, RSP controlled the first half of the match before Shigehiro rallied and fought back. They exchanged a plethora of power moves and strikes, both worked the ring well and had the audience invested from start to finish. RSP and Irie are two exciting wrestlers that easily excite, you look forward to and anticipate what they are going to do next which only makes the anticipation for their matches higher. Their personalities are another huge factor in their appeal with the audience, as well as working the ring they interact and work with the audience so well, RSP always makes it a memorable performance. This was also a welcome return for Shigehiro, I had seen him earlier in the year and wasn’t blown away, considering all the hype, he worked with Rickey well and was over with the crowd. After a late flurry of moves Rickey gained victory via a quick pin.
