@RoxBlackburn

I’ve spent a couple of weeks researching the best looking moves in wrestling and lost hours on you tube watching compilations of various wrestlers from different promotions.

Some of my favourites. Kenny Omega. I lost count of how many times I watched the V-Trigger compilation video.

Britt Baker. I fell in love with her at All In and I’ve been going through her back catalogue for a while now. I love her Slingblade and Stunner.

Jushin Liger. Liam suggested a couple of his moves for the article, so watching some of his matches was a lot of fun and I’ll definitely go back and watch more.

In other news this week we had the All Elite Wrestling Rally and I think we all marked out as this vision came to life. This is one of the most exciting things to happen in the pro wrestling world in a long time. I’m All In, are you?

WWE launched its first overseas Performance Centre. The UK is now home to a similar facility to that in Florida. There is a clear spotlight on British Wrestling, look out for weekly NXTUK reviews from PWJ.

We’re on the road to the Rumble but there’s so much going on outside of this, I’ve already forgotten what happened on Raw and Smackdown.

Well another newsworthy week in the fascinating world of professional wrestling. From WWE to AEW to most importantly, Chaos Wrestling it was very action packed.

Opinions were divided concerning AEW’s rally on Tuesday, the biggest news of course was the Khan’s announcement that legend Chris Jericho has signed with the company. His role which I see as a mirror Terry Funk’s circa 1997, when he signed for ECW will to draw attention to the product and make memorable, while also being an mentor to younger talent. Updates seem to be daily at that moment, I think most are awaiting the news of the signing of Kenny Omega and the eventual reveal of a TV deal.

I actually tuned into WWE this week, only to see the confrontation between Andrade Almas and Rey Mysterio. It was a gif that drew my attention to it, that only leads me to think that WWE should now slowly plot a storyline for a WrestleMania showdown. That feud is money, and in the meantime have Andrade smash through opponents to make him an actual threat.

I yesterday (12/1) attended ProWrestlingChaos in Bristol. Featuring a variety of performers and matches the card really stood out, especially since they lost some big names to WWE contracts. Robbie X and Paul Robinson made huge impressions last night, they are certainly that type of acts to pull in the fans and get more to take notice. My full review will be available on Monday 14/1.

My Week In Wrestling was incredibly truncated by my shoot job of being a teacher. Any plans I may have had to catch up on my pile of wrestling viewing were thrown out of the window when my school got a call from OFSTED that we were about to be inspected. Between the time involved in preparing for that, as well as a visit to a friend with a week old baby, my viewing has been few and far between.

However, I did catch up a little bit with wXw, starting with some of the key matches from the 18th Anniversary show. I saw Absolute Andy versus Lucky Kid and Bobby Gunns versus Shigehiro Irie. The title match was really good up until all the stupidity involving Nick Klein, though it was another case of a booking plan for the promotion getting scuppered by a late injury. What would have happened had David Starr got the shot like originally planned, it is hard to fathom, but the pop that Kid got for his ‘victory’ did really highlight how big his 2018 was in terms of elevating his position.

As for Gunns versus Irie, a strong contest with a clean victory for the import. I know that Gunns also lost to him at Road to Back to the Roots – a match I will also check out soon – so the third match they have planned seems set up for Gunns to finally avenge the defeats before moving on to bigger and better things come 16 Carat Gold.

WALTER’s arrival in NXT UK was mixed emotionally – the guy should have a bigger showcase, but he becomes another wrestler I like who has been swallowed up by the monolithic WWE machine. Still, a feud with Pete Dunne looks a tailor made way for him to come into the company, whilst it also feels like he would be the right person to end Dunne’s long title reign, one where he has rarely been in any position of real danger.
