When the dust settled last night at Attack Pro Wrestling, the audience were left dazed and confused and reeling from what they had just witnessed. It was the aftermath of the main event that shocked everyone in attendance, however before all that took place we witnessed some wonderful & weird wrestling.
Chris Brookes w/Kid Lykos def. Drew Parker
The evening kicked off with this fast flowing technical contest, with Lykos providing the entertainment at ringside the technical efficient Chris Brookes took on a future hardcore icon (trust me, Drew has huge potential) Drew Parker. This was a really good back and forth contest, as dominant as Brookes was Drew was very impressive, he pushes himself further every time he performs, as long as Drew stays injury free there is no limit to what he can achieve.
Mega Flowers (Chuck Mambo/Jack Sexsmith) def. Anti-Fun Police (Los Federales Santos Jr/Jim Obstruction)
Next up we were treated to the weird, it was revealed that Chuck Mambo has been watching too much 1980’s WWE content, thus Chuck & Jack were dressed as Savage & Hulk. The first ten minutes were filled with the OTT escapades fans can expect from Attack Pro, Chuck had Jack keeping the laughs in as Santos Jr lost his patience. When the action got going this was a solid wrestling match, everyone got in their spots and the audience loved it all, really feel good match featuring a Running Leg Drop and Diving Elbow Drop to mark victory. All shook hands afterwards, very nice.
Millie McKenzie def. Kyle Fletcher
The always impressive Mille McKenzie picked up another hard fought victory in this hard hitting contest. This was a slow built match that steadily grew to a nice finish, both Millie & Kyle pushed each other as neither backed down. We saw glimpses of a dastardly Kyle as he bent and tried to break Millie, she rallied with the audience behind her and countered his dominance. Millie let loose with some great looking German Suplexes as Kyle looked rocked, the action came to an end after McKenzie got a well-deserved victory. Kyle looked very good here, I’d like to see him mix it up with talent such as Boar and Bird going forward.
ATTACK Pro Tag Team Titles: Team WhiteWolf (A-Kid/Adam Chase) © def. Angelico/El Phantasmo
Team WhiteWolf defended and kept the AttackPro Tag Titles firmly around their waists, as good as this was I felt it could have been better. Both Phantasmo and Angelico worked a solid match but it lacked the speed of previous contests, WhiteWolf looked good throughout the match. This was the Spaniards first defence since winning the titles on April 8th, they performed well and withstood the offence of the challengers. The contest built nicely with Angelico & Phantasmo trying to attempt bigger and better moves to obtain victory, this was their downfall. Their showmanship allowed WhiteWolf an opportunity back in, the champions took control and retained their titles in great fashion with a thrilling victory.
Wild Boar def. El Ligero
As far as wrestling goes this was arguably the match of the night, hard hitting, fast, brutal it had it all, Ligero withstood a lot of punishment before eating defeat. Wild Boar was relentless, from the moment he stepped through the ropes he Gored and Powerbomb Ligero before the bell even rang. The challenger rolled out the ring, Boar was intense as ever, this set a great tempo for the evening. Ligero found his footing and came back into the match, the match went back and forth with Ligero attempting to push against the onslaught. Boar has looked amazing in 2018, you could draw comparisons with Taz’s 1998/1999 run in ECW, and Boar is a better wrestler. He has the agility, speed, intensity and wrestling ability to be a player in any promotion, this was a full on slobberknocker between two of the UK’s best workers.
Mike Bird def. Beano
I witnessed these two fight last weekend at Dragon Pro, this match however was much more physical and featured a very intense Mike Bird. An aggressive Mike Bird is the one we love to hate, when he hits he hits hard and you can feel it. Beano is getting better with each performance, a likeable crowd favourite who has adapted well and seems to evolve his style. He worked well with his former mentor, they went back and forth with stiff strikes and chops, Bird was the aggressor but Beano gave it back. Although in his early 20’s the young Newport native has so much potential, he works well in the ring, elicits the right reaction and backs it all up, with a few more years’ experience the world could be Beano’s oyster. Beano just like a week prior in Newport stood toe to toe with Bird and fought well, the action came to a finish when Bird locked Beano in a Crossface for the tapout victory.
Chief Deputy Dunne/Splits McPins def. Nothing To Prove (Elijah/LK Mezinger)
The main event was a result of the fallout from Embassy Bingo Mania from earlier this month, Fat Kat Lloyd viciously split from Splits (haha) and joined with Elijah and Drew Parker. Therefore McPins was granted his revenge as he teamed with Chief Deputy Dunne, following the heinous events of Cardiff the audience were well and truly behind Splits and Dunne. Elijah continues to improve as Attack continue to push him, as a heel he is remarkable, the crowd give him everything as he looks on with disdain. Mezinger joining him makes sense, they work extremely well together in Chaos and Dragon Pro, and it’s a natural fit. With Bowlarama no more Splits sought revenge and dealt out punishment to both opponents, the match was worked at a high pace which built towards the eventual big ending. Dunne and Splits were victors but it was the aftermath that everyone will remember.
ATTACK Originals
After Splits rolled up Mezinger, Nothing To Prove were furious, they pounced on Splits and beat him down. Elijah then grabbed chairs, alongside Joe they struck Splits multiple times. Then Drew hit the ring. They then attempted to break the ankle of Splits, it was at that point that ATTACK MC Jim Lee jumped to the defence of McPins, Nothing To Prove then took their frustrations out on Jim. Within seconds Boar, Andrews & Eddie Dennis hit the ring, the heels scarpered, Edde then took the microphone and proclaimed what current WWE stars Tyler Bate, Pete Dunne and Mark Andrews had done and where they came from.
With the audience roaring in approval, Eddie was on a high, that was until he attacked from behind Mark Andrews and Wild Boar the audience then went silent. No one could quite believe what they were seeing take place, Eddie then turned and ripped into the company and the fans, he mocked how little Attack had progressed and how many wrestlers of yesteryear had moved onto bigger and better things. He then revealed himself to be aligned with Nothing To Prove as they stood tall in the ring, it truly was breath-taking. Eddie Dennis was, without any argument flawless in his delivery and performance, this truly was a star making moment.
