Last night IMPACT WRESTLING gave us the latest weekly installment of IMPACT and what a show it was. We were treated to a few funny segments, great knockouts action, a new champion, some truth, and a return. Here are the highlights and what I thought of the show.
The Show opens With action from the Superb Knockouts division. Thick Mamma Pump Jordynne Grace took on the Girl on Fiyah Kiera Hogan. Just before the match got Underway and too the Surprise of Josh Matthews, The 5-time Knockouts champion Madison Rayne came to ringside and Joined Matthews and Callis on Commentary. She informed us that she now wishes to be referred to as “Her Royal Highness The Queen Bee” Madison Rayne and Also as the locker room leader for the Knockouts Division. Rayne Matthews and Callis are very funny on commentary, however, I’m not really a huge fan of wrestlers being guests on commentary particularly if they’re not focused on the match it just takes away from what the guys/girls are doing in the ring.
Some of my highlights from this match are Kiera Hogan hitting a series of Dives to the outside onto Grace and connecting with a few however on one of the attempts Grace Catches her and Suplex’s her on to the floor, Hogan connected with one of the dives but on the landing The girl on Fiyah, unfortunately, caught her head on the bottom of the guard rail. She seemed fine and continued with the match only for grace to drop her with a sit-down powerbomb to regain control of the match. Grace then hits Hogan with a modified Grace Driver for a near fall then Hogan picks up momentum nailing Her former friend with a series of running kicks in the corner only to get a two count. A lot of the match was spent on the outside with some pretty hard-hitting moves being used particularly by Jordynne grace who picks Hogan up onto her shoulders from the Apron turning around and drops to the floor in an Electric chair. The referee starts counting Grace gets back in the ring at 6 but it looks like Hogan isn’t gonna beat the count that was until Rayne left the Commentary Desk and puts Hogan back inside the ring at the count of 8. When Matthews confronted the former knockouts Tag Team Champion she said she was Just helping Hogan tie her boot. But Grace would pick up the win after getting Hogan in a pinning predicament, As Jordynne is walking back up the ramp she stares down the Queen Bee.
Both Hogan and Grace are future knockouts Champions we just don’t know when or even if it’s going to happen. It should happen because, in my opinion, they’re ready now.
Backstage, Knockouts champion Taya Valkyrie is Seeking The Demon Assassin Rosemary’s help once again in Dealing with Havok claiming The Death Machine is “Obsessed” With the Champion. Rosemary Declines to help the Valkyrie instead telling her their previous deal ended at SLAMMIVERSARY. But then John E Bravo Reassures Wera Loca that he’ll step up and Deal with the Former knockouts Champion Havok himself.
Sami Callihan then makes his way to the ring after requesting some air time to “Get Something off his Chest”. He immediately calls out his SLAMMIVERSARY opponent as well as his Mash up partner and Unbreakable opponent Tessa Blanchard and starts giving her the respect she deserves. Saying how they made history and That Tessa Blanchard has Fire, She has Heart. He went on to say that it shouldn’t be called “Intergender” Wrestling because it’s “Just Pro Wrestling “. Then he said “I’m gonna do something I don’t do often” Callihan Extends his hand out to Blanchard offering the Handshake. Blanchard clearly had to think about it for a few seconds but eventually, the two shook hands and it all seemed to be just about respect, that was until Callihan said “ See You Soon Toots” Then patted The Diamond on her behind. The third-generation star didn’t take too kindly to that and pulled Callihan back as he tried to walk away to punch him square in the face then as Sami was reeling Tessa climbed the top rope executing the Magnum to Sami and before leaving She sent another message to Sami with Thumbs up Thumbs down.
Backstage, The other Members of OVE are backstage talking about “Sticking to the plan “ when The Draw comes back through the curtain clearly unhappy none of his boys came out to help him. Dave Crist would tell him what he told them to do which was stay backstage. Callihan Didn’t like that and Told Dave he’ll “Punch him in the face”. Callihan had a message of his own for Blanchard only this was less subtle he informed Tessa she has a Match with Mad Man Fulton next week.
Next, Moose faces a guy I’m unfamiliar with by the name of Ray Steele. There wouldn’t be any opportunity for us to familiarise ourselves with Steele as MOOSE would make light work of him after draping Steele over the ropes swiftly followed by a no Jackhammer needed spear the match was over. Mr. IMPACT WRESTLING then asked for a mic and began to tell us how unhappy he is with not yet being world champion of IMPACT. Saying how you need to be unloyal to get a title shot, Stating how all the former world champions left IMPACT. He then looks over at Executive Producer Don Callis at the Commentary Desk and tells him that it’s his fault what he’s about to do to his opponent Ray Steele and it’s his fault his Family is going to have to set up a Go Fund Me and proceeds to powerbomb Steele on the apron then just leaves not before informing Callis once again “That’s on your Hands”.
There is no doubt in my mind that Moose should have been world champion at last year’s SLAMMIVERSARY or perhaps even sooner. The man the Myth The Legend has earned a world championship run as he’s the most loyal member of the Roster and truly does put the company on his back.
We head backstage once again and see John E Bravo Finding Havok and in the hopes of convincing her to back off The Knockouts champion Taya Valkyrie stating that they can either do this the “Hard way” or the “Fun Way” Bravo removes his Sunglasses and unbuttons a few of his shirt buttons. But Havok would just slam him against a door backstage and as Bravo Ran away he says “Okay looks like we’re doing this the hard way”.
We’re then treated to yet another hilarious Rascalz Tree house segment in Which Wentz reveals “ I hated being part of OVE” and Trey is still trying to act like Sami Callihan but is Told to stop by his fellow Rascalz. Dez then reveals that they have a tag team title match against the North next week and then they try to decide who’ll be in the match Wentz makes it easy for them by telling them he’s going to a Jonas Brothers concert, to the surprise of Dez he asks who is he going with? Gail Kim then appears next to Wentz and thanks Wentz for the invite into the Tree house and then they leave to go to the concert.
Melissa Santos interviews Kiera Hogan backstage trying to get her thoughts on losing her Match against Jordynne grace but is quickly interrupted by Madison Rayne asking “How does it feel to be a loser?” with Hogan responding with “I don’t know why don’t you tell me you haven’t won since 2011” As Melissa Santos tries to regain control of the interview Rayne and Hogan turn on her and they tell her to be quiet and just hold the microphone, Melissa clearly doesn’t appreciate that and simply walks away.
Ace Austin is trying to get Alisha Edwards to go on a date with him by showing her some magic tricks. Clearly, unimpressed Alisha turns him down. Then a Cute girl walks down the stairs to Ace to inform him that she likes magic but Ace tells her she isn’t his Type to which the lady replies with “What Brunettes?” Ace replies “No, Single”.
Ace Austin is truly showing his star potential with his great heel work, Comedy timing and superb in-ring skill. I said this when he debuted and I’ll say it again Ace Austin will be X Division Champion by the end of the Year.
Now we moved on to A match I didn’t know I wanted in Willie Mack vs RVD, it starts off pretty even at the beginning with both men finding it difficult to keep control of the match, RVD then hits a running senton off the Apron onto Willie on the outside. Back in the ring, Willie Mack starts to take control with a running back senton into the corner quickly followed up by his signature Standing moon Sault for a very near fall. The veteran Rob Van Dam regains a little control of the match but when he attempts the top rope split-legged moon Sault Willie Mack gets his knees up which he then follows up with a huge lung blower, control switches back and forth with RVD going for a little rolling thunder but is reversed by Mack into a pin fall for a very close 2. After both men attempted their finishers it’s RVD who connects with the 5-star Frog Splash for the victory.
Ace Austin is still trying to convince Alisha Edwards to go on a date and this time he has a “Levitating” box with a “Sick bird” inside. The box is attached to his waist and tries to get Mrs. AIP to put her hand in the box only to be shall we say Box Blocked by Stone Rockwell (Adventurer) who puts his hand in the box and informs us the “Bird” is severely malnourished and pulls Ace Away by the inside of the box.
In the LAX clubhouse, Konnan informs Ortiz that Daga will be replacing the injured Santana in LAX’s tag team championship rematch against the North but Ortiz has other ideas.
Now onto The X Division Championship Match in which The Champion Rich Swann takes on The Medium Draw, Jake Crist. The match Starts off slow with both men doing some mat-based holds just trying to feel each other out with nobody really gaining the upper hand. That was until Swann soars through the air crashing into Jake on the floor. As Jake is put back inside the ring the referee checks on him making sure he’s good to continue. Dave Crist then sees an opportunity, runs to the ring to distract Swann. Jake sees an opening and dives outside nailing Swann with a DDT. Both men get near fall after near fall and kick out of each other’s signature moves like Rich Kicks out of a Death Valley Driver in the corner against the ropes and Jake kicking out of Rich’s top-rope Elbow drop. Swann even connects with the phoenix splash but Dave puts his brother’s foot on the bottom rope saving Ove’s championship hopes. The Champ would then take out both Crist’s with a double Handspring cutter. As the referee is removing Dave from the ring Rich climbs up top only to be pushed off by mad Man Fulton into a waiting cutter from Jake Crist who follows up with a Sliced Bread #2 for 1-2-3 and New X Division Champion Jake Crist.
It was then time for the advertised Street fight Main Event between the World champion Brian Cage vs Michael Elgin in a non-title match. Elgin would make it clear he didn’t care it was non-title because he only wanted to Hurt Cage and End his world championship run one way or another. Cages music hit but was taking a while to come out to the ring, until we see the world champion come crashing through the curtain and laying on his front. A second later we see the man responsible Michael Elgin with a steel chair, laying in shots to the previously injured back of Cage beating him all the way down to the ring. Both men are in the ring but the cage is clearly Hurt and we wait for the bell but there isn’t one. Elgin puts a chair under the face of the world champion and goes under the ring to get another, he comes back in the ring and plays the con-chair-to on the head of the world champion. Elgin would then set up a chair in the seated position and puts the head of the machine through the back of the chair about to do something career-ending. Fortunately Cage’s wife and backstage announcer Melissa Santos runs to her husband and begs Elgin to stop, Big Mike grabs Santos about to do something bad to her however the Masked Man from Slammiversary jumps in the ring and gets in Spear (Gore) position in the corner runs at Elgin but is nailed by a Steel Chair. Then another Masked Man climbs in the ring unbeknownst to Elgin. He removes his mask and of course, it’s Rhyno and to loud cheers from the Windsor crowd Rhyno Gores Elgin as Melissa Santos pulls her husband to Safety as Don Callis yells “Gore!!!, Gore!!!, Gore!!!, Gore!!!”. The War Machine and Former NWA TNA world champion leaves the ring jumps into the crowd to celebrate slowly unzipping is Jacket to reveal an IMPACT WRESTLING T-shirt.
