Hello everyone and welcome back to a special double review of 205 Live. Last week’s episode was superb but I didn’t really have time to review it. Fortunately, I’ve managed to spare my self a half hour or so to review both this and last week’s episode. Let’s get right into it.
‘Gentleman’ Jack Gallagher & Humberto Carrillo vs The Singh Brothers
The Singh Brothers are back in action and rightfully so. I really enjoyed their work last time out and this time was no exception. Taking on the new team of ‘Gentleman’ Jack Gallagher & Humberto Carrillo, there was some fantastic action in this match however the crowd never really got into it, unfortunate considering that this match was actually really solid. After getting off some good spots, the Singh’s were finally downed by Gallagher and finished with a Aztec press by Carrillo (@8:45). Good action, good opener. Momentum builds for Gallagher & Carrillo however the Singh’s still seem like they might get somewhere in the tag division. I’m looking forward to it.
Mike Kanellis vs Akira Tozawa vs Ariya Daivari vs Oney Lorcan vs The Brian Kendrick
The main event of last week’s episode, this one was a match for the ages, one of the best of the year for 205 Live. Five of the best in the whole of 205 Live, this fatal 5 way was a sight to behold and featured 2 former Cruiserweight Champions, 2 former contenders and a sneaky Mike Kanellis. Kanellis portrays a great cowardly heel, Tozawa some brilliant strong style, Daivari an excellent all rounder, Lorcan a hard hitting brawler and The Brian Kendrick, a 20 year+ submission expert. The match remained high octane throughout and everyone involved managed to showcase themselves, their finishers and everything else they brought to the table. With Daivari on the brink of a victory, he hammerlock lariats Lorcan who is out cold but out of nowhere, Tozawa comes in and cradles Daivari for a 1, 2, 3 (@16:45)! Shocking victory but boy am I pumped up. Nese vs Tozawa… wow. This match was super fun with some excellent spots and great chemistry between all the men involved.
Mike Kanellis vs Brian Kendrick
The opener of a three match show, yes, three matches on 205 Live, Kanellis takes on Kendrick. This was a really solid match and these two put on a clinic but sadly, the crowd doesn’t really take to Kanellis and therefore no matter how good his singles matches are, they rarely get much of a reaction. Kanellis with a superkick, Michinoku driver and a spinning facebuster gives him the victory (@9:55). Now, this was an incredibly solid match with some great moments and I hope that with Nigel McGuiness’s great commentary, maybe, just maybe, Kanellis can get the slightest bit over. I really, really hope so, I think he’s really solid in ring.
Noam Dar vs Johnny Boots & Tights
A squash match, a cocky Dar absolutely dominated Johnny throughout, tossing him in an out of the ring and finishing him off with the Nova Roller (@2:15). This was fine, a solid squash match and leaving with some heat by saying ‘Oklahoma sucks’. Good stuff… good stuff.
‘Gentleman’ Jack Gallagher vs Humberto Carrillo
This was absolutely superb. Mentor turned friend faces his student. The experienced, technical Gallagher dominates Carrillo throughout until Carrillo fights back. Really brilliant stuff and some great energy to this match. This might even compete with the main event of last week’s episode of 205 Live, not that I thought that I’d be saying that. These two put on a really, really good showing and these two just click in the ring, they really do. Two completely contrasting characters & styles with Gallagher’s serious character and technical ability taking on the more fun loving and daredevil style of Carrillo. Spike DDT and a corkscrew 450 splash and your winner, Humberto Carrillo (@16:10). Again, really, really solid, very fun and excellent action. This was a wonderful main event and a great way to end this double review.
