Over the past eight years of my wrestling fandom, I have dabbled in almost every kind of wrestling promotion in one way or another but, I’ve been watching two promotions almost exclusively they are as follows.
ROH (Ring Of Honor Wrestling) and WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment.) Both companies talent rosters are arguably the best they’ve ever been so that’s why, I decided to skim through the roster pages of both companies and came up with a few matches I would like to see if I got to fantasy book a inter-promotional event between the two of them.
(Quick disclaimer this was originally going to just be one article with four matches but I came up with more intriguing scenarios than I had originally anticipated so that’s why I decided to make a second article very soon with some other matches listed.)
Match 1 Bandido VS Kofi Kingston
( Left to Right, Kofi Kingston and Bandido )
The first match on this card is one with plenty of similarities between the two athletes, seeing as they are the two main attractions for their respective stables Lifeblood and the New Day, along with the fact that both are well-versed in the art of high-flying excellence.
In one corner you’d have the popular and nimble veteran Kofi Kingston, who has spent years in the WWE carving out plenty of memorable moments over his ten year career and showing no signs of slowing down at the age of 37. Though he continues to pine for his first big win that could push him unto the upper echelon of WWE greats.
In the second corner, you’d have the exciting Luchador known as Bandido. Who has made himself the talk of the wrestling world recently, as a result of him racking up a bunch of impressive performances and wins in ROH! having just signed his first contract with them a few short months ago.
When I started making this list, this was one of the first matches to pop into my head. Thanks to Kofi’s recent meteoric rise as a main event player in WWE, being very similar to what Bandido is going through now in ROH at the current moment. I’m sure it would truly be a great spectacle in the ring thanks to their similar skills and action packed finishing moves! Such as the Twenty One Plex for Bandido and KofI Kingston’s spinning roundhouse kick known as Trouble In Paradise!
Match 2 Jonathan Gresham VS Daniel Bryan.
( Left to right: Daniel Bryan and Jonathan Gresham )
Second on this card is a contest that could easily be seen as a competitor coming face-to-face with a reflection of his past self.
Those of you who have watched WWE recently can see that the character of Daniel Bryan has undergone a seismic shift. Going from the uplifting underdog that fans have come to know over the past couple of years, into a environmental friendly mad man desperate to hold onto his prestigious WWE championship.
But in the other corner, stands a man that many ROH fans liken to a young Daniel Bryan. Thanks to his renowned technical skills and respect for the sport, that man being The Octopus Jonathan Gresham. Who has shown that he can go toe to toe with any competitor when the lights are on brightest, as a result of his string of great matches in ROH. With the most notable one being his fantastic Iron Man match with Jay Lethal on ROH TV this past September.
I really think these too can craft a interesting story together heading into the match thanks to the parallels between them that I had just outlined. Also once the bell rings, the hard hitting and technical match between these two would be just magnificent.
Match 3 Velveteen Dream VS Dalton Castle
( Pictured Above Dalton and The Velveteen Dream doing some of their signature poses )
Third on this list, is a contest between two of the most uniquely gifted competitors in their respective companies. The current NXT North American Champion, The Velveteen Dream and the former ROH World Champion Dalton castle.
Over the years we’ve seen these two competitors both use a incredible combination of mind games and athleticism to pick up key victories, whilst intoxicating fans with their unique character work and unpredictability.
These two men have also proven that they can adapt to a variety of different in-ring styles depending on what the situation calls for, leading to a extensive back-catalog of all time classics for each of them.
In ring action discussion aside, just the near thought of Velveteen and Dalton having promo battles trying to outdo each other sends shivers down my spine!
Rest assured, fans the world over would never forget the night that the peacock had himself a velveteen experience.
Match 4 Briscoes vs America Alpha.
( Above: The Briscoes holding the ROH tag team titles with America Alpha below them )
Lastly on this list is a battle between two of the most well respected and important tag teams in modern wrestling!
First off we have the vicious ROH veterans the Briscoe Brothers, who have made a name for themselves with incredible matches against a who’s who of tag team greats in ROH history, raising both the prestige of its belts and the pension for violence in the ROH tag team division.
Secondly we have one of the most short-lived but successful tag teams in WWE history, Chad Gable and Jason Jordon AKA America Alpha! Who in their short time together used a variety of crisp high flying and terrific double team offense to pulverize opponents. Holding both the SmackDown live and NXT Tag Team championships along the way.
I have a belief that these two teams could really do some exciting stuff, If given the opportunity thanks to their offensive creativity and contrasts in styles. Which is why I would love to see it sometime down the road if it all works out!
Conclusion
Thank you all for reading this article on four of my WWE VS ROH Dream Matches.
