ROH TV – 07/02/2019 – Centerstage, Atlanta, GA
Opens up with a newly formed 3 man team of Josey Quinn, Corey Hollis & John Skylar, and they proclaimed that no 3 man team is as mean as them and issued an open challenge to which Villain Enterprises showed up. Marty Scurll cut a short speech about how he used to be like them and that the business has not jaded them yet, he went on to say that Skylar and co will no doubt become huge stars in ROH but not at the expense of Villain enterprises.
All 6 men explode into a melee both inside and outside of the ring to which Villain Enterprises gain the upper hand. Once order is restored, the match officially start with Quinn & PCO, Quinn fires off a series of knife edge chops to PCO’s chest to which he seems to enjoy, then he retaliates with one of his own sending Quinn into the corner where he continues to chop his opponent leaving Quinn in some discomfort. Then PCO Bodyslams Quinn , prompting his partners, Hollis and Skylar into the ring. They try double-teaming PCO but to no avail as he breaks their attempted double Clothesline and answer with one of his own, flooring both men.
He then turns his attention to Skylar and drills him with a huge Chokeslam. PCO is a man on fire and sees Quinn laid prone on the apron, so he scales the turnbuckles, but to my horror misses the Senton Bomb attempt, smashing his spine into the ring apron. No sooner had the shock set in, I was amazed when PCO sat straight up in an apparent adrenaline rush, Hollis tried to capitalise on the situation, but his Suicide Dive attempt saw him get caught in mid-air and thrown backwards into the security railing.
PCO gets back in the ring, only to be greeted with a flurry from Quinn, PCO quickly knocks him down and tags in Scurll. Scurll enters the match and unloads a flurry of chops to the grounded Quinn. Skylar makes a blind tag and takes advantage of Scurll’s lack of awareness and catches him with a Slingshot Spear and follows it up with mounted punches to the head, Skylar backs Scurll into the corner and tags in Hollis. Hollis, Skylar & Quinn isolate Scurll in the corner, trading frequent tags and strikes, Scurll then tries to fight out of the corner by throwing elbows and punches at Skylar and Quinn only to be foiled by a corner Clothesline by Hollis. Hollis then Attempts an Irish Whip but it’s countered by Scurll, who hits a beautiful Rope-Run Tornado DDT. Hollis Down. Scurll makes it to his corner where he gets the hot tag from the Tattooed Terror Brody King who is all fired up and proceeds to floor all 3 of his opponents with Haymakers, Big Boots and a vicious Armlock Lariat to Quinn. He drapes Skylar on the middle rope and delivers a massive Cannonball to the back, Skylar seems to have had the wind knocked out of him.
Scurll then tags in only to be met with a Forearm Smash by Skylar, Skylar then shoots off the ropes only to be caught by King who Flapjacks him. Scurll the follows up with a Basement Dropkick and King delivers a Senton Back Splash, (the crowd loved this combination) Villain Enterprises play to the crowd with a positive response. Scurll refocuses on the match and his attempted Belly to Back Suplex is countered by Skylar, Hollis then makes a blind tag and rushes the ring and King eliminates Skylar from the match after delivering a Cactus Clothesline.
This left Hollis in the ring, after attempting to take out PCO, he tries a Single Leg Takedown on Scurll which is blocked and countered into a Powerbomb; A slick transition into a Boston Crab allows PCO to inflict more damage when he drops a Legdrop onto the neck of Hollis and he follows it up with a Cannonball Suicide Dive. Brody King re-enters the ring, Scurll slingshots Hollis into King’s Forearm Smash, he falls back onto the knees of Scurll and King delivers another Senton Back Splash to the prone Hollis. Scurll signals for the end, and King obliges by planting Hollis with Ganso Bomb, then feeds him backward into Scurll who then applies the vaunted Crosssface Chicken Wing for the submission victory.
A dominant display from Scurll & Co. Scurll Gets freaked out when he sees Red and Black balloons during the celebration, The Kingdom show up on stage and run their mouths about how they are the best 3 man team in history (Jury still out on that one, a few others come to mind) and that they are fighting champions and have no problem defending them ………….just not tonight, Villain Enterprises VS The Kingdom WILL happen.
2 very short promos followed – 1 from Matt Taven & The Kingdom – stating that they know all about Villian Enterprises, that PCO is human and that Brody King is big and bad but still can be knocked out with a Baseball Bat shot to the head. Secondly a promo from the ROH World Champion Jay Lethal – Saying that it is hard work keeping all the contenders to his title in line and that he is fed up with Matt Taven running around with a fake belt and disrespecting ROH. He claims that Taven has his attention. (Possible match at Bound By Honor 2019).
Main Event time, and it’s a contrast in styles when ‘The Darewolf’ PJ Black challenges ‘The National Tresure’ & NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis for the 10 pounds of gold. PJ Black arrives at the ring first to a positive reaction. Aldis then approaches the ring flanked by the Amazonian Kamille (reminds me of HHH & Chyna back in the day) and he takes his time soaking up the crowd adulation. It’s the first time since 1993 that the NWA title has been defended in Atlanta Firstly the official introductions by Bobby Cruz Match has a 60 minute time limit. The referee Todd Sinclair gives instruction and the match is underway Both men tie up and go straight into the Greco-Roman Knuckle Lock, then briefly exchange Arm Wringers and Wristlocks, a lovely Catch-As Catch-Can exchange results in Aldis having Black in a Grounded Hammerlock which has to be relinquished due to Black being in the ropes, clean break. Both men tie up again, Black quickly goes behind Aldis and surprises him with a School Boy pin attempt which gains a 2 count, black then applies a Front Facelock to Aldis who backs into the ropes, looks like a clean break but black shoves the champ in the chest. Aldis confidently purches himself on the top turnbuckle a la HBK briefly to which black responds by Showing off his parkour prowess with a fancy modified handstand , Aldis smirks with approval. Black whips Aldis off the ropes, Aldis knocks down Black with a Shoulder Block, Black stays down and tries countering Aldis with a Hiptoss which is blocked, Aldis tries a Hiptoss which is also blocked, black takes down Aldis with a Legsweep and attmpts a pin , Aldis with the quick kickout and takes Black over with a Side Headlock , referee counts Blacks shoulders down for 2 , then Black escapes the Side Headlock with Headscissors to Aldis who then Performs a Hanstand and escapes the Headscissors , Black motions for a timeout. Tie Up again and a role reversal of the last sequence with Black applying the Side Headlock.
Aldis counters with Headscissors to Black, Black goes into a Handstand to escape, offers the champ up which he foolishly takes as Black delivers 2 European Uppercuts to Aldis, he goes for a third but it’s countered by the champ into a Backslide for a near fall. Again Black asks for a timeout. PJ Black Adopts some heel tactics, offering a handshake to the champion, whilst having his fingers crossed behind his back, Aldis accepts again and pays for it again as Black grounds him with another Legsweep and Double Foot Stomp to the spine, Black then hot dogs with the crowd and pays for it instantly as the champion floors him with a thunderous Clothesline (safe to say the feeling out process is over now), both men exchange chops and punches in the corner , Aldis then whips Black into the far corner buckle and follows him in with a Corner Clothesline, Aldis goes for it a second time but Black tips up in the corner and sends Aldis to the floor with a Flying Headscissors, Black then sets himself for a Slingshot Crossbody but Aldis rolls into the ring mid-flight and Black adjusts himself so he lands on the ring apron , Aldis now takes his spot hot dogging for the crowd and invites Black back into the ring , Black the runs at Aldis who first attempts a Clothesline then drops down to evade Black , then his Leapfrog attempt is countered by Black who uses 2 fingers to the eyes of Aldis, Black get admonished by the referee for the illegal move. Aldis regroups on the outside of the ring , PJ goes up top but is cut off by the stoic stance and intense glare of the ever-intimidating Kamille, black then Baseball Slides to the outside only to be greeted with a hard Clothesline by the champ Aldis. Aldis briefly rools into the ring to break the Referee’s count (commercial break, match continues) Match resumes and Aldis has Black in a Rear Chinlock, Black quicky escapes using various strikes including and Forearm Shiver and Punch, Black then shoots himself into the ropes only for the champion to shadow him and turn him inside-out with another hard Clothesline. Aldis picks up Black and hoists him into the air and holds him there before delivering a textbook Stalling Vertical Suplex (a la Davey Boy Smith). Black really felt that one, Aldis back Black into the corner and delivers a Knife Edge Chop to Black, Irish whip from Aldis to Black who rebounds out of the corner and gets put up into the lights by Aldis with a massive Back Body Drop, followed up swiftly with a Front Chancery , Black regains a vertical base and escapes with elbows to the body of Aldis and both men exchange Chops and Punches, Aldis backs the Challenger Black into the ropes and uses the Irish whip to shoot him off, Aldis telegraphs his next moves which is countered acrobatically by Black who staggers Aldis with a Spinning Heel Kick ,which sends him into the corner.
Black starts to pick up the pace by following Aldis into the corner with a Stinger Splash to which he lands on the apron, and counters the champs wild attempt at a strike by driving Aldis’s head into the top turnbuckle , Black then go to the top and flies off and Elbow Strike which looks to get Aldis on the crown of his head , Black lands and quickly goes to the top of the opposite corner and delivers a Superman Punch to the dazed champion and gets 2 and a half count from the resulting pin attempt. Black’s Irish Whip is countered by Aldis who follows him in only for Black to get his boot up in to the face of the champion, Black Attempts and overshoots the Quebrada but recovers and plants Aldis with a Inverted DDT, Black again looking to follow up with something high-risk, and the risk pays of when he nearly collapses the chest cavity of the champion with a huge Mushroom Stomp off the top turnbuckle and results in another near fall. Black seemingly in control goes back to his wheelhouse, high-risk, but this time he gets caught by the champion , his attempted Double Axe Handle from the top is countered when Aldis drops him high and tight with a German Suplex, Aldis follows up with a Powerbomb with Stacked cover.
Black kicks out at 2 , Aldis tries to transition into the Kings Lynn Cloverleaf but Black reverses into an Inside Cradle to which the champion kicks out at 2 , Black staggers to the corner, Aldis charges in but is met by a Back Elbow by Black, who then attempts another springboard which is countered again by the champion , Aldis climbs up behind Black and tries to take Black over with a Belly to Back Superplex but Black escapes by elbowing Aldis 3 times , but the tenacious champion would not be denied , again scaling the turnbuckles behind Black and finally delivering a monstrous Superplex this time of German variety turning black inside out in mid-air, Aldis Covers Black, gets a 2 and a half count. Aldis looking to put Black away makes his way up to the top turnbuckle only to be cut off by Black who gets Aldis in the face with a hard Palm Strike, Black tries a Superplex of his own but Aldis holds onto the ropes and throws the challenger off, but its Black who will not be denied as he quickly ascends the turnbuckles and takes Aldis over with a Top Rope Frankensteiner and he quickly follows up with a Moonsault press which looks like Black’s Boot only connected with Aldis , the challenger uses a very relaxed cover for a 2 and a half count, PJ seems to be getting frustrated and applies a Standing Dragon Sleeper to the larger champion. Somehow in a Herculean show of strength Aldis counters Black and Drills him with a perfect Tombstone Piledriver to which he follows up with a Top Rope Elbow Drop (Randy Savage would be proud of that one) but still only gets 2. pin attempt, Aldis is in disbelief and he motions to Kamille to get the title belt , Kamille throws in the 10 pounds of gold only for Black to intercept and use the old Eddie Guerrero trick , he throws the belt to Aldis the takes a back bump , Referee Sinclair sees Aldis with the belt and obviously thinks Aldis has struck Black with it , but instead of signalling for the bell and awarding Black a DQ victory he removes the belt from the ring , thus leaving black the opportunity for Black to surprise Aldis with a School Boy which only got 2 count , Black Smells blood and attempts another pin , this time using a Casadora which he then turns into an Inverted Boston Crab (Black tipping his cap to Colt Cabana who used the same move to win the NWA title) only for his grip to fail and Aldis reaching the ropes , no wasted motion with black as he continued his assault on the champion , this time scoring with a Suicide Forearm Knocking Aldis down , Black motions to the crowd that he is going for one more dive to the outside, but this time he goes a Flying Dropkick through the ropes and wipes out Kamille who shoved Aldis out the way (Crowd appreciates this with the ‘THIS IS AWESOME’ CHANT) Black seems concerned for Kamille and Aldis tries to post Black only for it to be reversed. Black attack Aldis back in the ring with a Springboard Crossbody , Aldis rolls through and gets another near fall. Balck rolls to the apron, Shouldblocks the onrushing Aldis in the Stomach and Attemts Sunset Flip which is blocked, Aldis gets caught by Referee Sinclair for using the ropes in a pin attempt and kicks his arms, Black finally rolls up Aldis who kicks out and rapidly applies the Kings Lynn Cloverleaf, PJ tries to get to the ropes but the champion would not be denied, he pulled black back into the centre of the ring where Black taps out. WHAT A MATCH, match ends at 37:39 Juice Robinson comes to the ring and explains why he came to Ring of Honor and that there is a new breed of stars in ROH , that will restore Honor and respect in ROH and who will take the company to the next level and it starts RIGHT NOW , and short Video appears on screen with the captions “ A NEW BEGINNING , FROM AN OLD FOUNDATION, ROH BEGINS ANEW” the lights come back on and in the ring stand Bandido, Mark Haskins, Tracy Williams ,David Finlay , Juice Robinson and Tenille Dashwood and they are known as LIFEBLOOD.
