For the last couple of years, WWE’s viewership has been on an increasing decline making it an opportune moment for competitors to try and gain some traction. WWE has been the ultimate goal for most wrestlers over the last two decades and Vince hasn’t had any real American competition since WCW in the 90’s. Now, this is all speculation but this may well be set to change with a mysterious new company under the name, ‘All Elite Wrestling’ claiming several trademarks including ‘ALL OUT’, ‘DOUBLE OR NOTHING’ and ‘Tuesday Night Dynamite’. Now, does any of this bare some resemblance to a certain Cody Rhodes or The Elite. Well, I’m starting to think so. You see, rumours have it The Elite (Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Adam Page & Marty Scurll) has teamed up with Chris Jericho and billionaire Tony Khan to create a fresh new promotion called All Elite Wrestling or AEW. I’m not here to discuss whether this is all true but Cody Rhodes’ most recent tweets are very intriguing with each tweet adding fuel to this rumour fire.
Now that the backstory to this is sorted, I’d like to share my opinion on the possibility of ‘Tuesday Night Dynamite’. ‘Tuesday Night’ seems to indicate that this will be a weekly show, an exciting prospect to note down. I would like to mention that in 2019, Smackdown Live is scheduled to move back to Friday nights. This would rule out direct competition for Tuesday nights but I’m still interested to see how this goes. A show run by the Elite & Chris Jericho, now that would be interesting. I think that a new competitor to the American wrestling scene would be great news and would mean even more opportunities for wrestlers to blossom. I definitely think a weekly show would be an uphill struggle for AEW but any competition is good in my eyes. If this does go ahead, I desperately hope that AEW will do well on Tuesday Night Dynamite. I just really hope that eventually, someday, somehow Vince will get the hint that maybe, just maybe, his viewership may be decreasing because the show quality just isn’t consistently there anymore.
Now, ‘ALL OUT’ & ‘DOUBLE OR NOTHING’. Again, linking this back to the subtle drops of information that The Elite has been dropping over the years, I’m pretty sure both of these are going to be future events which I hope will be even bigger and better than ALL IN. After ALL IN went off air this year, Rhodes grabbed the microphone, and began to talk about how great the show is and how happy he is about the overwhelming support and then he went on to mention that he may be back next year and ALL IN may be, ‘DOUBLE OR NOTHING’. Again, luring me back in. Personally, I feel like ALL IN was a great show, a great experience for all indy fan lovers and in my opinion, a good step forward for independent wrestling and wrestling as a whole. I loved the hype that revolved over the year leading up to ALL IN, I loved how the fans interacted at Starrcast, I loved the phenomenal effort put into the Being The Elite episodes on YouTube (seriously, if you haven’t checked out Being The Elite, it’s absolutely great), and most importantly, I thoroughly enjoyed the ALL IN show itself. It did not feel like a random indy super show, it did not feel rushed, it was classy and it set up storylines for other promotions and really helped boost lesser known wrestlers in the past couple of months. The news of more of these spectacular shows is welcomed by me and I’m sure by several other people too. Now, all I can do is just sit here and wait whilst The Elite tries to pull me back in with their bait, with their personalities and with their prowess in the wrestling business.
All Elite Wrestling, AEW, my opinion? I’m ecstatic.
No. AEW will not be direct competition for WWE straight away.
No. AEW will not have the prestige that WWE has straight away.
But yes. This is great news, for all of us. Not only do we have the possibility of getting another wrestling promotion (which is always welcomed by me), we have hope that maybe finally Vince will try and improve Vince. And that’s what The Elite is in general. I see them as a glimmering shine of hope, when all else fails, when WWE delivers yet another underwhelming episode of RAW, at least we might have a safety net to fall back on. And even then, if AEW is a hoax, if I have been fooled by Cody Rhodes’ genius once again, I can always watch Being The Elite, and that, that I am happy for.
