The evening kicked off with Dave Mercy in the ring, he was however viciously attacked by LK Mezinger, Bane and Elijah. They were set to make an example of him before Danny Jones and Matt Horgan scared off the heels.
Bane def. Danny JonesThe evenings events kicked off with this impromptu match, once again the factions of the Brotherhood and Modern Culture clashed in this fast and furious opener. Danny Jones took the fight to Bane early on, they traded blows outside of the ring as the audience rallied behind Jones. Bane, by the far the weakest member of the Brotherhood benefitted from being in the ring with Danny, although at times some of his offence left a lot to be desired. Danny looked pumped for this one, since returning from Japan nearly a year ago his style and ring work has much improved, I would say that it isn’t long before Danny breaks out on his own. Bane played the heel role well; his offence was hard hitting it just seems at times he has two left feet. Although Danny was in control it took the distraction of Elijah and LK to swerve the momentum Bane’s way, after they appeared on the stage Bane took advantage and rolled up poor Danny for an underserved victory. Good match, Danny is going places.
Maiden of Chaos No1 Contenders Match
Shax def. Sierra Loxton
Personally, I didn’t question who the winner would be in this one, Sierra has been pushed solidly from day one at Chaos and I didn’t see a change here……how wrong I was. Shax looked much improved compared to her last outing with Jinny in June, her speed, ring work and athleticism was another step up. She took the fight to Sierra and didn’t give up, she looked the aggressor throughout and controlled the majority of the contest. Sierra was again just okay here, as I’ve said before she never seems happy in a Chaos ring and more often than not could be mistaken as the heel, however at the recent Thursday Night Throws show she looked confident and assured and stole the show against Chris Brookes. She rallied at certain points but never looked to take back the match from Shax, this was a solid wrestling contest with Shax really stepping up and right now I’d happily see her take the title from Jinny. Shax claimed victory via a Double Underhook DDT. This loss surely pushes Sierra towards an inevitable heel turn.
Project Superbad (Kip Sabian/Martin Kirby) def. Gideon & Mikey Whiplash
Although not overly appealing on paper this match did produce, and featured a very controversial ending thanks to Cara Noir, who made his return to Chaos. The first half of the match was controlled by the stronger more physical Gideon and Whiplash, they took turns dealing out punishment to both Kirby and Sabian. Project Superbad finally found a reprieve after catching Gideon off guard, they twisted and punished the left arm. Kip Sabian missing when Kirby was getting a beating came alive once Gideon was in danger, he found great enjoyment with twisting and stretching the Chaos veteran. Whiplash and Gideon managed to fight back with pure aggression, the audience was very much into this match with the support split between both teams. The heelish mannerisms of Project Superbad were a highlight of the match; however, they were not enough to deter Gideon and Whiplash. When momentum seemed to changed Cara Noir, last seen viciously attacking Gideon in July again did the same, he came to ringside and blew white powder into the eyes of Gideon. Mikey Whiplash gave chased and carelessly left his partner at the mercy of his opponents, Kip and Martin took made good use of the chance and put Gideon down for the three count.
King of Chaos Championship Match
Big Grizzly © def. Dick Riley
Well what can I say, this was the first of two match of the year contenders, unarguably Grizzly’s finest match in a Pro Wrestling Chaos ring. This had everything, the atmosphere was electric, the audience were divided, the performers were simply astonishing and the match delivered. This was everything you could want from a Championship match, before the bell even rang Grizzly and Riley brawled all over the venue, the audience were on their feet from the start. Champion and Challenger traded blows on the outside, neither man could gain the upper hand before the contest finally got started. As I have done before with matches like this, I don’t think words gives this match the credit it deserves. The match was flawless, Grizzly really exhibited here the type of champion he could be when pushed and Dick again proved how good he is when given the opportunity. After a spring/summer slump the time seemed perfect for Dick to finally become the King of Chaos, however Grizz saw things differently. As a wrestling match this was near perfection, arguably as good as Riddle/Bird from June 2017, but hey that’s just my opinion. The offence, selling, reversals and near falls were timed to perfection, this was a damn fine wrestling contest. As they exchanged big moves the momentum swung in Dick’s favour, he had Grizzly defeated…1, 2, 3……the ref counted, the room popped, however that was not the case, Grizzly the wily champion managed to put a foot on the rope. As another referee and announcer came to ringside Riley looked dismayed, the decision was made to restart the match. Grizzly fully recovered and pounced, he hit Dick with a low blow and hit a huge Double Choke Powerbomb on Riley to retain the title, the audience were aghast.
Chris Brookes def. Drew Parker via Disqualification
The atmosphere finally calmed during the interval, so next up was this unannounced but welcomed contest. Last month Drew made a declaration to win the Chaos Rumble and eventually capture the King of Chaos Championship, therefore a match with Chris Brookes was a worthy test. These two worked very well together, their styles complemented each other and in turn we were treated to a rather exciting wrestling contest. The technical style of Brookes suited Drew’s kamikaze ring work, they went back and forth as the audience cheered on Chris with CCK chants. For me Drew is something special, he’s not the greatest in ring worker but what he does, he does well plus his organised careless style really sets him apart. Brookes looked good here as always, he’s smooth and methodical in his approach and the more I see him perform as singles star the more, I like him. His reversal on Drew into an Indian Deathlock Style lock was beautiful, however it wouldn’t be a beautiful ending for Brookes. As Drew was near defeat, he inflicted pure violence on Chris via his trusty spike, which he thrusted into the face of Brookes. The referee called for a disqualification.
Knight of Chaos Tag Team Championship Match *Title Change*
The Hunter Brothers def. Crazy TeaCups (Charlie Sterling/Eddie Lion) ©
This was a highly anticipated contest, unfortunately Eddie Ryan did not physically appear so Pariah Khan found a substitute in the form of Eddie Lion. The Hunters as heels are great, they emit this “we are better than you “attitude and it really suits them, similar to their performance in June they were flawless again here as they exhibited why many consider them the best team in the United Kingdom. Sterling’s partner was a mystery man in a lion suit, this was welcomed by a majority of the audience, for me personally this wasn’t needed in a tag team title contest, however what it did do was allow Charlie Sterling to shine. It was again another one man show from Sterling, with or without Eddie Ryan he is the star of the show, he holds the team together. He performed admirably against a game Hunter Brothers, who made it a point of not allowing him to get a tag to Eddie Lion. The aforementioned Eddie Lion did his best impression of attempting to be a Lion while ringside, Pariah Khan was priceless as always with his OTT behaviour at ringside. This was a solid tag team contest; a title change had been coming for a while and I was happy to see the Hunters take the belts. This should bring about a split between the Crazy TeaCups, Sterling with Khan at his side is money, as a double act they have headline credibility, in Sterling in the King of Chaos title picture is good business.
30 Minute Iron Man Match
Beano def. Mark Haskins (7-6 in overtime)
Well what a main event, quite simply this contest capped off a perfect evening for Chaos. I do have my concerns about Iron Matches, but the quality of this match wavers my opinion. The match had the audience on the edge of their seats throughout, this was a fitting finale to arguably one of the best feuds of 2018. The match I thought was paced very well, the first half was slower compared to the frantic last ten minutes or so, both competitors went at its full throttle. The in-ring action as expected was slick, Beano is a great worker already and Mark Haskins is one of the United Kingdom’s best wrestlers, without argument. They were two falls apiece before Haskins went up a gear and proceeded to beatdown Beano, his demeanour was relentless. The plucky Welshman fought back but was constantly mauled by Haskins. The audience were again divided for this contest but you couldn’t help but respect both men for their efforts, this was wrestling at its best. Haskins very quickly took the lead to make it 6-2, his attacks were relentless but his gloating was his downfall, Beano went deep and rallied as Haskins attempted to keep control. Beano managed to hold it together, he was determined to prove to Haskins and everyone in attendance that he could move to that next level. He recovered and came back into the contest, tying with Haskins 6-6 as the 30-minute time limit struck zero. The decision was made to continue this match, the momentum was fully with Beano as he took over the contest. He reversed out of Haskin’s attempts and hit his rope assisted Urinage for the seventh and final fall and victory for Beano.
The audience stood for both men, and as all good professionals do, they put their differences aside and embraced. Beano received a standing ovation as the evening came to a close. Overall a very strong showing from Chaos.
