Prelude:

In the last four months Pro Wrestling Chaos have had some unexpected setbacks, top singles star Eddie Dennis got injured, as did Maiden of Chaos Jinny, Travis Banks pulled out of their February show and last but not least Matt Riddle couldn’t attend this past Saturday due to passport issues and was stripped of the King of Chaos Championship. There is no denying that many plans were thrown into disarray, and from that Dave Mercy had to make many difficult decisions.

Show Opening:

Dave Mercy opened the show by announcing that Jinny had not be cleared to wrestle, that was very unfortunate as she stands alone as one of the UK’s finest female performers. In Jinny’s absence Sierra Loxton would take on the challenge of former WWE superstar Emma. We then moved onto the elephant in the room the King of Chaos Championship, before Dave could further elaborate Big Grizzly made his way to the ring. He demanded that he be crowned the new champion by using his Heir 2 The Throne briefcase to cash in, after much back and forth Dave allowed Grizzly to claim the title, he then announced that it would be defended in a Triple Threat match with Jeff Cobb and Dick Riley.

Bane def. Flash Morgan Webster

In his in-ring return to Pro Wrestling Chaos, Flash Morgan Webster took on the challenge of Brotherhood member Bane, Flash received a hero’s welcome as Bane was heckled by many fans at ringside. The match was good, Flash kept the action flowing as the once awkward looking Bane held his own. The larger Bane controlled the opening contest as he grounded the high-flying Webster, the story of the match was told well and the audience reacted to the in-ring action accordingly. In what many presumed should have been a clean Flash victory were shockingly incorrect, via interference from members of the Brotherhood Bane scored the upset victory and maybe the biggest of his career.

Wild Boar w/Kaggy def. Beano

In the last three weeks I’ve seen these two men wrestle (not each other) every weekend, between Dragon Pro and Attack they’ve arguably had the best match on the card. Beano’s fanbase is growing in the South West, he’s likeable, talented and can talk, he has a very bright future. Boar who returned to Chaos in January has had a slow start and seems to be embroiled in a feud with Gideon, which unfortunately I don’t think will do much in the terms of career progression in Chaos for him. The match was solid, both are very good versatile wrestlers but the buzz was missing from this one, neither man wrestled like we all know they can and it showed. Outside interference from Kaggy and a nasty looking SitDown Piledriver from Boar cost him the match. Beano will bounce back from this and no doubt continue his progression up the card. The Boar and Kaggy tandem has potential, but after four months we are still yet to find out their purpose.

Alex Steele attacked Eddie Dennis

In the continuing Alex Steele/Eddie Dennis feud we next saw a vicious attack from Alex on Eddie Dennis and Oliver Sudden via a crutch. The segment was solid, I wasn’t sure if Steele was laughing manically or breaking character during his promo, Eddie who has become a super solid character since turning full time played it well. It was loveable comedy character Oliver Sudden who saved Eddie from a beating, however that plan backfired when Alex took out his frustrations on the young Welshman. Overall a really solid segment, but you can’t help feel the Alex is small fry compared to the heights Eddie Dennis is hitting and will continue to once cleared to wrestle again.

Tenille Dashwood def. Sierra Loxton

Former WWE superstar (Emma) Tenille Dashwood made her Chaos debut, she was originally scheduled to face Jinny but the match fell through because Jinny was not cleared from injury. Her replacement was Sierra Loxton, who once more failed to turn up to the dance, again her lack of personality and overall character was lacking, why exactly is she freaky? Tenille Dashwood was no better, except for a few flashy moves you would struggle to believe she’d been through NXT and appeared on WWE’s main roster. The match had its moments but overall was not a thrilling contest, the quick squash match between Jinny and Sofia Ari in January blew this away. Sierra seemed to forget to build up speed as she skipped around the ring before the “big” chair spot at ringside, the believability left the room.

Knights of Chaos Tag Team Championship Match

Mike Bird & Drew Parker def. Charlie Sterling/Eddie Ryan & The Brotherhood (LK Mezinger/Elijah) ©

This was without question the match of the night, Sterling may not have won the match but he stole the show and was the MVP of the evening. This was from start to finish amazing, everyone pulled their weight and put together one of the most entertaining Tag Team Matches of 2018. Mike Bird & Drew Parker have come together really well, they look polished and earned the win, Bird for one looked back to his best on this night, the Riddle match was a milestone for him last year and he looked as good on Saturday. Joe & Elijah continue to build upon their tandem that exists in Dragon Pro and now Attack Wrestling, I hope even in defeat they can push on and evolve as characters. The glue in all of this was Charlie Sterling who alongside Eddie Ryan were phenomenal, their pacing, acting and timing was flawless, as entertaining as Sterling is, he deserves more. Charlie carries with him that x-factor, but when the bell rings he steps up, as far as I’m concerned, he should be mixing it up with Dick Riley, Grizz and Eddie Dennis by year end. Great match, wonderful storytelling and a satisfying finish, wrestling at its finest.

Gideon def. Brendan White

Unfortunately for the talented Brendan White Saturday can be forgotten, this match dragged and was the opposite of what came before it. Brendan who in the last few months faced off against Pete Dunne and Danny Jones at Dragon Pro, looked mediocre here. This was clunky, Gideon just doesn’t elicit the reaction he thinks he does and doesn’t bring out the best in people. Brendan who has built his reputation on a hard hitting suplex style couldn’t get past first gear on Saturday, some of the audience who are not well versed with the South West region failed to recognise him, add to that a slow match and it spells disaster. Gideon went over via hard hitting Muscle Buster.

Following the match, both Kaggy and Boar appeared and goaded Gideon by attacking Sierra with a Kendo Stick, Gideon ran to her aid. This surely means we’ve not seen the last of Gideon vs Boar….oh joy.

King of Chaos Fatal-4-Way Elimination Match

Big Grizzly © def. Jeff Cobb, James Drake & Dick Riley

This for me bought back memories of the main event of WrestleMania 16 in 2000, with all that had happened the evening was set for a happy ending, and that would have been Dick Riley holding high the King of Chaos Championship. Unfortunately for many fans that would not be the case, with the way the order of elimination and controversial finish I was left scratching my head. Prior to the match beginning, James Drake threatened his way into the match after forcing the hand of Dave Mercy, this only added to the confusion. Jeff Cobb, one of the finest pure wrestlers on the independent scene was criminally wasted, after a few impressive throws he was discarded to the back. We settled in for a wild ride as Grizz and Drake agreed to dispatch Dick Riley, the action was good and the main event was satisfying in some ways. The match was built around Riley’s resilience, he withstood much punishment but still kept kicking out.

James Drake has yet to do anything of merit since debuting, he took part here but never did anything to warrant a championship opportunity. Drake was eliminated next after Flash Morgan Webster’s music distracted him, he stormed off backstage in search of Modern Culture. That left Dick and Grizz, we had two ref bumps, title shots, briefcase shots, multiple kick outs, everything but the kitchen sink! This contest revolved around Riley, he showed great character as he continued to stay in the fight, the audience were all for Riley as it seemed inevitable he would win. Another referee entered the fray but he too found himself unconscious via briefcase to the head! This left it wide open as Grizzly once more struck Riley with the case, and as luck would have it the original ref recovered just in time to count Dick’s shoulders down as Grizzly retained.
